Meet the Joe 238 Crew!
Colleen Stymeist-Wood - Director/Producer
In 1990 Colleen’s one-year-old daughter was put on the waiting list for a heart transplant and a new chance at life. Since that time, Colleen has been on a quest to share the gift and her gratitude for organ donation with the world. Joe238 is both her story and that of thousands of other families who have donated and received life giving organs.
Colleen's small-town upbringing has given her the ability to see anyone eye-to-eye and know him or her as her neighbor. Tales that document the challenges and triumphs of the human spirit are the stories she looks to inspire her audiences with. Her propensity to document these stories as well as the need to satisfy her quest for outdoor adventure landed her at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In addition to her film pursuits, Colleen produces a LIVE Alaskan storytelling show called "Meanwhile, in ALASKALAND..."
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of her daughter receiving the gift of life, Colleen makes her first feature-length film in a series of stories documenting organ donation and transplantation from different perspectives.

Brandon joined the Joe238 crew because he believes this is a story that needs to be told, and is excited to be a part of something that could potentially be life changing, and life saving to someone.
Makenzie Demmert - Story Consultant
Mak's love and knack for storytelling began to show at the age of 5, when she began to write her first short stories. When her hands tired from writing she would dictate her stories to her mother to write down in order to continue the story. Three years later, she was introduced to her first video camera and she quickly took to directing her friends in short, silly films at sleepovers.
At the age of 16 Makenzie conducted her first “real” face-to-face interview with Daniel Ellsberg, the man who leaked the Pentagon Papers to the press during the Vietnam War, the original "Edward Snowden" one might say. This experience not only left Makenzie with a sense of civic duty but also with an unquenchable thirst for truth, coupled with the newfound recognition of the undeniable power of media.
One BA of Film degree later, Makenzie finds herself working for PBS Affiliate station KUAC, Fairbanks as a TV Producer where her main duties are editing, camera operation, grant research and conducting the occasional interview.
